Paulo Dantas é acusado de desviar dinheiro público
O governador de Alagoas, Paulo Dantas (MDB), aliados político do senador Renan Calheiros (MDB) e do ex-presidente Lula, foi afastado do cargo pelo Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ). O afastamento foi a pedido da Polícia Federal, que deflagrou nesta terça-feira (11), operação para investigar fatos apurados ainda como deputado estadual.
Paulo Dantas é suspeito de manter funcionários fantasmas em seu gabinete na Assembleia Legislativa de Alagoas. A operação cumpre 31 mandados de busca e apreensão, e nos endereços visitados estão tantos a sede do Legislativo quanto do Executivo.
A necessidade e a urgência das medidas cautelares cumpridas na manhã de hoje – que incluem busca e apreensão, sequestro de bens, afastamentos de função pública, dente outras medidas – foram amplamente demonstradas nos autos da investigação policial e corroborada pelo Ministério Público Federal, o que subsidiou a decisão judicial.
A investigação, ainda em sigilo, aponta a ocorrência dos crimes de organização criminosa, peculato e lavagem de dinheiro. Também nesta terça-feira, o vice-governador será comunicado a respeito da ordem judicial de afastamento do governador do cargo.
De acordo com a decisão da ministra do caso, Laurita Vaz, o afastamento do político tem prazo de 180 dias.
Governador – O emedebista ascendeu ao Governo em maio, após a renúncia de Renan Filho, que disputou e venceu a eleição para o Senado. Concorrendo a um novo mandato, ele recebeu dia 02 de outubro, data da votação em primeiro turno, 46,64% dos votos válidos, enquanto seu adversário, Rodrigo Cunha (União), apoiado pelo presidente da Câmara Federal, Arthur Lira (PP), teve 26,74%.
Quando Renan renunciou para disputar o Senado, o vice-governador, Luciano Barbosa, não podia assumir porque deixou o cargo em 2020, quando assumiu a Prefeitura de Arapiraca.
O próximo na linha sucessória seria o presidente da Assembleia Legislativa de Alagoas, Marcelo Victor (MDB), que preferiu não assumir o governo e concorrer à reeleição, convocando eleições indiretas.
Após imbróglios na Justiça, travados entre Arthur Lira e Renan Calheiros, Paulo Dantas foi eleito para um mandato até 31 de dezembro.
Sua campanha se baseia no que foi feito durante a gestão de Renan Filho, citando obras realizadas no período ou que estão sendo concluídas durante seu período no governo.
Dantas foi prefeito do município de Batalha durante dois mandatos e, em 2018, se tornou deputado estadual. Sua esposa, Marina Thereza Cintra Dantas (MDB), é a atual prefeita da cidade.
