Francisco Bertulino Cruz une a herança das raízes portuguesas, afrodescendentes e indígenas

Diz a lenda que nas sextas-feiras de lua cheia um touro de olhos brilhantes pode ser visto na Ilha dos Lençóis, localizada no Maranhão. Esta figura mítica é Dom Sebastião, o rei português morto em uma batalha no Marrocos, que se tornou protetor das terras e dos mares maranhenses. Atravessado por este imaginário mágico, o pesquisador e brincante da cultura popular, Francisco Bertulino Cruz, fez uma releitura da história para homenagear a sabedoria ancestral e disseminá-la para todo o Brasil.

Por isso, no lançamento literário O Rei Sebastião, os leitores são convidados a conhecer um dos mitos mais famosos do Nordeste, que se popularizou a partir da conexão entre as raízes portuguesas, africanas e indígenas. Nesta obra com ares de realismo mágico, Sebastião é um menino que, desde o nascimento, tem uma vida permeada por mistérios.

Frustrado por nunca ter ouvido o pai falar e isolado com a família em uma distante casa de pedra, o garoto adaptado ao silêncio coleciona palavras em um “mocó”, pequena colcha de retalhos. O protagonista tem um apreço especial por expressões, vocabulários e conhecimentos aprendidos com a avó paterna – que, na verdade, é apenas fruto da imaginação da criança.

Sebastião procurou nas receitas dos livros velhos as formas de colher o silêncio do pai, de catar o calado da fala, de entender os olhos e de guardar as memórias. Os livros ainda vivem floridos, resistem. O menino levantou os livros das estantes velhas, abriu-os, expulsando a poeira, fazendo-a voar para outros mundos, bem longe dali. Ele cultiva páginas abertas para pescar conhecimento. (O Rei Sebastião, pg. 39)

“Sebastião sabe que há uma linguagem do dia e outra da noite e que podemos ser a palavra que a natureza e os ancestrais semearam silenciosamente em nós. Ele aprende que não há verbo útil se não se encarna, mas também como a concretude da vida pouco vale se não tivermos quem a interprete com a sabedoria tecida nos longos silêncios”, explica o autor, também conhecido como Xico Cruz.

O artista utiliza uma linguagem poética para escrever cenários, pensamentos, diálogos e acontecimentos. Com isso, a obra transporta o público para uma história que transmite a beleza cotidiana de quem vive próximo às praias do Nordeste brasileiro.

O barulho do balanço da rede, o pé de manga cheio de frutos, o trabalho dos pescadores e o som das ondas à noite estão inseridos na narrativa para mostrar como a ancestralidade se faz presente até nas mais comuns experiências do dia a dia.
