Após um mau início de temporada sob o comando de Fábio Carille, perdendo três dos seus quatro jogos iniciais da liga, o jogador de 48 anos deixou o clube por mútuo consentimento e o treinador campeão do mundo Luiz Felipe Scolari foi contratado como director técnico enquanto desempenhava também as funções de treinador principal.
Os resultados rapidamente se viraram a favor do Furacão, com duas vitórias na Copa Libertadores confirmando a sua progressão para as oitavas-de-final, enquanto também subiram de 16º para 5º na Série A – fechando a diferença no Palmeiras no topo da tabela para apenas cinco pontos, mas dada a dos homens de Abel Ferreira, será difícil apanhá-los.
Com apenas uma derrota no campeonato desde que Felipe Scolari chegou no início de Maio, eles ainda têm bom aspecto na apostas na Betfair e com a experiência do treinador de 73 anos, que parece ter gerido clubes ou países nos quatro cantos do globo nos últimos 40 anos, combinado com a experiência de Fernandinho há razões para acreditar que o Athletico-PR pode realmente conseguir algo nesta temporada.

Mas qualquer esperança de realmente ganhar a competição da primeira taça da América do Sul é talvez um pouco rebuscada dada a qualidade de jogadores como Palmeiras, Atlético Mineiro, Flamengo e os gigantes argentinos da Primera División River Plate.
Ganhar a liga também parece ser ambicioso, mas se eles conseguirem desafiar para um lugar entre os quatro primeiros, então ainda seria certamente um bom resultado para o Athletico-PR, pois é um feito que eles não alcançam desde 2013 – quando terminaram em terceiro lugar atrás do Grêmio e do vencedor Cruzeiro, que são ambos agora equipas da Série B.
Mas ter pessoas como Fernandinho por perto no camarim vai fazer a diferença, pelo que mais cedo ele assina para o Furacão e é integrado no lado por Felipe Scolari ainda melhor.
