A Polícia Civil do Maranhão (PC-MA) prendeu, nessa quarta-feira (15), um homem suspeito de comandar um grupo de extermínio na Região Tocantina, no Maranhão.

Segundo a polícia, o criminoso teria sido responsável por mais de 16 homicídios no estado. O suspeito foi abordado dentro de um caminhão na BR-223, em Santa Luzia do Paruá, cidade localizada a 370 km de São Luís. Segundo a polícia, ele estava usando documentos falsos e com isso, chegou a adquirir bens e armas de fogo com o nome falso.

A polícia afirma que o criminoso pretendia fugir para o estado de Sergipe. Com ele, a polícia apreendeu uma pistola com munições. O homem possui uma condenação por homicídio pela Justiça do Ceará.

Ainda durante a operação, duas pessoas também foram presas pelo crime de favorecimento pessoal. O homem foi encaminhado para o Sistema Penitenciário do Maranhão, onde vai permanecer à disposição da justiça. A ação integra mais uma etapa da Operação Thanatos, da Polícia Civil.
