Instalada no município de Açailândia, no Oeste do Maranhão, a Aço Verde do Brasil (AVB), empresa pertencente ao Grupo Ferroeste, está investindo cerca de R$ 70 milhões em uma usina termelétrica para aproveitar os gases de seus altos-fornos e sustentar sua produção de aço sem carbono.
A planta terá potência de 12 megawatts (MW), suficiente para abastecer aproximadamente um terço do consumo elétrico da siderúrgica sediada no Maranhão.
A empresa, recentemente, foi distinguida com a Medalha do Mérito Industriais outorgada pela Confederação Nacional da Indústrias (CNI) ao seu fundador, Ricardo Nascimento.
