Ausência do saneamento básico afeta milhões de nordestinos

O Maranhão despeja diariamente na natureza um volume correspondente a 194 piscinas olímpicas de esgoto inatura. É o terceiro maior volume, atrás apenas dos estados da Bahia e de Pernambuco do Nordeste, que abriga quase 60 milhões de brasileiros.

A região nordestina apresenta uma situação preocupante para levar o acesso aos serviços básicos para a população. Segundo informações disponibilizadas pelo Sistema Nacional de Informações sobre Saneamento (SNIS), ano base de 2021, apenas 30,7% da população é atendida com coleta de esgoto, ou seja, mais de 39 milhões de nordestinos sofrem com a ausência desse serviço.

Ademais, somente 35,5% do esgoto é tratado, o que significa que cerca de 1.315 piscinas olímpicas de esgoto sem tratamento são jogadas no meio ambiente todos os dias.

No que diz respeito ao acesso à água potável, mais de 14 milhões de habitantes da região não são abastecidos com água potável, enquanto 46,2% da água produzida nos sistemas de distribuição é perdida, isto é, todo esse volume não chega de forma oficial para os habitantes.

Com metas estabelecidas pelo Marco Legal do Saneamento, no qual, todas as localidades do país devem atender 99% da população com acesso à água e 90% com coleta e tratamento de esgoto, o Nordeste deve voltar seus esforços para superar esse gargalo e buscar levar o acesso pleno do saneamento para a população.

A ausência de saneamento tem implicações imediatas na qualidade de vida da população, impactando diretamente a saúde das pessoas. Dados do DATASUS 2021, presentes no Painel Saneamento Brasil, mostram que ocorreram mais de 59 mil internações por doenças veiculação hídrica e cerca de 583 pessoas foram a óbito devido a essas doenças.

Ao total, a região teve despesas de mais de R＄ 23 milhões com hospitalização por doenças associadas à falta de saneamento.

Investir no saneamento básico é mudar a vida da população nos mais diversos âmbitos sociais e econômicos, afinal o acesso pleno aos serviços de água e esgotamento sanitário trazem qualidade de vida para população, reduzindo internações e óbitos por doenças de veiculação hídrica, possibilitando um desenvolvimento saudável do jovem no período escolar e influenciando no aumento da produtividade do trabalhador.
