Pontos de atendimento da Rua da Paz e Cohama vão fechar

O Instituto de Promoção e Defesa do Cidadão e Consumidor do Maranhão (Procon-MA) e o Sindicato dos Empregados em Estabelecimentos Bancários do Maranhão (Seeb-MA) ajuizaram Ação Civil Pública na Vara de Direitos Difusos e Coletivos de São Luís. O objetivo é impedir o fechamento de duas agências do Banco Itaú no estado.

A ação visa impedir que mais de seis mil consumidores ligados às agências da Rua da Paz (Centro) e Cohama sejam prejudicados pelo fim das atividades.

“Recebemos denúncia por meio do Sindicato dos Bancários e ajuizamos essa ação para evitar que sejam fechadas duas grandes agências, que atendem mais de 6 mil consumidores, dos quais cerca de metade, três mil pessoas, são aposentados e necessitam da prestação de serviços bancários de maneira também presencial”, comentou a presidente do Procon-MA, Karen Barros.

O Procon e o Seeb também pediram a condenação da Instituição financeira em R$ 500.000,00 (quinhentos mil reais) por falha na prestação dos serviços, uma vez que os consumidores não foram informados das mudanças e nem direcionados às novas agências ao qual estarão ligados. O órgão também questiona a mudança unilateral dos contratos.

“Essa é uma infração clara contra o direito à informação previsto no Código de Defesa do Consumidor e é importante acrescentar que a absorção de consumidores por outras agências acarreta ainda mais problemas no atendimento, uma vez que as agências bancárias já apresentam, em sua maioria, superlotação com seus próprios clientes. Tais ações comprometem a prestação eficiente do serviço, assegurada aos consumidores pela legislação”, completou a presidente.

“Estamos confiantes de que a justiça será feita e que ambos os estabelecimentos continuarão em funcionamento em benefício não só da categoria, mas de todos e todas que dependem do serviço bancário prestado naquelas unidades”, afirmou a diretora do Seeb, Gerlane Pimenta.

O Banco Itaú, que de acordo com as informações levantadas na ação fechou outras 307 agências em 2023 no país, comprou, no mesmo ano, uma nova sede no estado de São Paulo no valor de quase R$ 1,5 bilhão e teve lucro anual de R$ 35,6 bilhões, aumento de 15,7%.
